Safe Cleanup: Thumbnail Cache and Temporary Files

Bitcut stores cached data to speed up the editing experience. Over time this cache can grow, especially if you work with many projects. Clearing it is safe — everything regenerates automatically when needed.

What Bitcut Caches

  • Thumbnail cache — preview images for clips on the timeline. These are small JPEG files used to display the thumbnail strips. Typically a few hundred MB for heavy users.
  • Import cache — legacy imported video files from older versions of Bitcut. Newer versions reference files in place without copying, but old imports may still be stored here.
  • Temporary files — intermediate files from audio extraction, processing, and export. These are usually cleaned up automatically but can accumulate.

How to Clear Cache

1

Open Settings

Tap the profile icon from the project list to open the settings screen.

2

Find the storage section

Scroll to the storage section. You will see the current size of each cache category.

3

Tap Clear

Tap Clear Import Cache or Clear Thumbnail Cache depending on what you want to remove. Confirmation is required before deletion.

Safe to clear: Thumbnails regenerate automatically the next time you open a project. Your projects, clips, and settings are never affected by clearing cache.
