Creating Your First Project
Start a New Video Editing Project in Under a Minute
A project in Bitcut is a container for one short-form video. Each project has its own timeline, music track, subtitle settings, and export history. You can have as many projects as you want — they're stored locally on your device and take almost no space until you export.
How to Create a Project
Open Bitcut
Launch the app. You'll see the project list — empty if this is your first time, or showing your existing projects.
Tap the + button
The plus button at the bottom of the project list opens the media picker. You can select one or more videos from your photo library, Files app, or an external drive.
Select your video(s)
Tap to select the video clips you want to include. You can pick multiple clips — they'll all be added to the timeline. Bitcut supports any format your iPhone can play: MOV, MP4, HEVC, ProRes.
Choose how to add clips
After selecting videos, a dialog asks how you want to process them. Choose "Add to Timeline" for the simplest start — clips are added directly. Or choose "Smart Add with AI" to let AI detect speech and auto-trim clips.
You're in the editor
Your project opens in the editor with clips on the timeline. From here you can trim, reorder, add music, enable subtitles, adjust face tracking, and export.
Naming Your Project
Bitcut auto-generates a project name from the first clip's filename. To rename it, go back to the project list and long-press the project card, then tap Rename. A clear name helps when you have many projects.
