Narration Script Editor
Segment-by-Segment Script Editor: Lock and Regenerate
After AI Story Mode generates a narration script, each segment appears in the script editor. A segment is a block of narration text that corresponds to one or more clips on your timeline. The editor lets you read through the generated text, edit anything that needs changing, lock the parts you are happy with, and regenerate the rest.
The script editor is where you shape the narration before recording or generating AI voice audio. Spending a few minutes here saves time on re-takes later.
Understanding the Script Editor
The script editor displays your narration as a list of segments. Each segment shows:
- Clip thumbnail — a preview frame from the corresponding clip, so you can see what the viewer will be watching while this narration plays
- Segment text — the narration script for that portion of the timeline
- Lock indicator — shows whether the segment is locked (preserved) or unlocked (editable)
- Segment number — the position in the overall script sequence
Segments appear in timeline order. Scrolling through the editor is like reading through your entire narration from start to finish, with visual context for each section.
Editing Segments
Tap a segment to select it
Tap any segment in the list to open it for editing. The text becomes editable and you can make changes directly.
Edit the text
Rewrite words, adjust phrasing, or add new sentences. Your changes are saved automatically as you type. The clip thumbnail beside the text reminds you what visuals this narration will accompany, so you can tailor the words to match.
Preview the result
Play back the timeline to hear how your edited text sounds when spoken. If you are using AI voice narration, regenerate the audio after editing to hear the updated version.
Locking and Unlocking Segments
Locking is the key to preserving work you are satisfied with while still being able to improve other parts of the script.
- Locked segments — marked with a lock icon. Their text is preserved during any regeneration, whether at the block level (block refinement) or when regenerating surrounding segments. Lock a segment when you are happy with it.
- Unlocked segments — open for editing and regeneration. When you trigger a block refinement or regeneration, only unlocked segments are affected.
Lock a segment
Tap the lock button on any segment to lock it. The icon changes to indicate the segment is now protected. Its text will not change during regeneration.
Unlock a segment
Tap the lock button again to unlock it. The segment becomes editable and will be included in future regeneration requests.
Regenerating Segments
If a segment is not working, you can ask the AI to write a new version rather than editing it by hand. There are two ways to regenerate:
Regenerate a single segment
Select the segment and tap regenerate. You can optionally provide a specific instruction — for example, "Make this more conversational" or "Add a question at the start." The AI rewrites just that segment while keeping the rest of the script intact. This is Level 4 of the instruction system.
Regenerate all unlocked segments in a block
Use block refinement to regenerate every unlocked segment within a block at once. This is useful when the overall direction of a section needs to change. Locked segments are skipped, so your approved text stays safe.
Recommended Workflow
- Read through the full script — scan every segment from start to finish before making changes
- Lock the good segments — anything that reads well and matches the visuals, lock it immediately
- Edit minor issues by hand — for small wording changes, direct editing is faster than regeneration
- Regenerate the rest — for segments that need significant rewriting, use regeneration with a specific instruction
- Final read-through — read the entire script one more time to check flow and consistency between segments
Tips
- Match length to clip duration — if a segment is too long for its clip, the narration will feel rushed. Shorten the text or split it across segments.
- Keep transitions smooth — check that the ending of one segment flows naturally into the beginning of the next. Abrupt topic changes between segments can sound jarring.
- Use the thumbnail as a guide — the clip preview beside each segment shows what the viewer sees. Write narration that complements the visuals rather than simply describing them.
- Combine with the teleprompter — once your script is finalized, use the teleprompter to read it on screen while recording
