Precise Clip Splitting: Remove Unwanted Sections

Splitting divides one clip into two at a precise point. Both halves remain on the timeline as independent clips that you can trim, move, or delete separately. This is the go-to tool when you need to remove a section from the middle of a clip or apply different settings to different parts.

How to Split a Clip

1

Position the playhead

Drag the playhead (the vertical white line) to the exact point where you want to cut. The preview shows the frame at the current position so you can see precisely where the split will happen.

2

Tap the split button

With the clip selected, tap the split (scissors) button in the toolbar. The clip is instantly divided at the playhead position.

3

Work with the two halves

You now have two clips. Select either one to trim, delete, reorder, or adjust settings independently.

Zoom in first: Pinch to zoom into the timeline before splitting. This gives you finer control over playhead placement — especially important when splitting on a specific word or beat.

Removing a Middle Section

To cut out an unwanted section from the middle of a clip:

  1. Split at the start of the section you want to remove.
  2. Split at the end of that section.
  3. Select the middle clip and delete it.

The remaining clips close the gap automatically.

Splitting Clips with Subtitles

When you split a clip that has subtitles, the words are distributed between the two halves based on their timing. Each half keeps only the words that fall within its time range. No subtitle data is lost.
